The phrase “agricultural literacy” refers to an understanding of the food and fiber system and how it affects our quality of life. The word “literacy” on its own generally refers to the ability to read. Sometimes agricultural literacy IS literacy.
And so, it is the case with the variety of reading materials produced by the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom program. Teachers and students have enjoyed learning from IAITC’s Ag Mags and Readers for many years. Now, Facts for Little Readers, Junior Ag Mags, and Spanish Readers have been developed to reach an even broader audience.
Ag Mags and other Readers are available on nearly three dozen agricultural topics and can be viewed and downloaded at www.agintheclassroom.org. Additionally, hard copies of Ag Mags are available free to teachers for use in the classroom. They can be requested by emailing
