DeKalb third grade students, teachers attend ag History Expo
Novelist Pearl S. Buck once said, “If you want to understand today you have to search yesterday.” In April, third graders from the DeKalb school district searched the past and gained knowledge of the present during a multi-day expo at DeKalb County Farm Bureau.
This was the third year for the History Expo. The event is sponsored by the school district in partnership with Farm Bureau, which helps to organize and host the event. The DeKalb County Soil & Water Conservation District, DeKalb County History Center, and DeKalb Area Agricultural Heritage Association are also instrumental in planning and conducting the expo.
While at the expo, 500 students traveled in groups through seven learning stations. Back in the classroom, the third graders built on what they learned via related follow-up activities, including completing a timeline of area history.
