Show Us Your Farm Boots

Farm life needs boots in every season. Each pair we wear is for a reason.

This is the opening rhyme in the newly released book, Farm Boots by author Lisl Detlefsen. Lisl is a Wisconsin cranberry farmer who in a joyful, rhyming tale shows readers the many boots needed on the farm.

To coincide with the release of this new book, Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom (IAITC) has launched a “Show Us Your Boots” social media campaign.

Jacob and Natalie Wilkening wear their boot covers for livestock chores.

“We are excited to showcase Farm Boots and introduce students, teachers and the general public to the variety of boots farmers, and those involved in agriculture, wear each and every day,” said Kevin Daugherty, Farm Bureau’s Director of Illinois Center for Agricultural Engagement.

“Author Lisl Detlefsen brings her experience from her own family farm to bring Farm Boots, for kids of all ages to life,” said Daugherty.

IAITC is requesting video submissions to showcase the diversity of farms and farm families in Illinois and the many boots they wear to get their work done on the farm. Videos will be posted from now through April 20. To post videos visit: https://iaitc.co/boots.

To further promote the book and campaign, DeKalb County Farm Bureau has reached out to local farm families for photos of kids in their farm boots, featured on these pages. And also, Farm Bureau is partnering with the Robin’s Nest Bookshoppe in DeKalb to offer the book in the community.
